The third meeting in Amares, Portugal

20th - 25th October

Meeting report

After meeting in Amares the students described the impressions and evaluation.  All project partners, together with the hosts of the visit,   provided the entire local community with a report on the visit to Italy in the form of a note in the regional press. The information included a description of the activity in which we participated and comprehensive benefits they carried these events behind them. In schools, participants presented a detailed report of the lessons and workshops they have taken, so that other teachers can use the new methods and techniques of the classes. There was an evaluation of the visit  during as well as after staying in Italy to allow us to clearly and legibly determine whether the given action has brought the expected result

My experience in Portugal

On the 19th of October, 2019, my trip to Portugal with the Erasmus+ project “The power of Maths” began.

Before the 19th though, I was already preparing myself to go there. I was quite nervous, but I have participated with Erasmus+ before, so I knew everything would be all right.

We land at the Porto airport. Next day we arrive to Braga which is the third city in Portugal. In the evening, we finally headed to Amares, and met with our host families. Me and Mykolas went home immediately, met with Simao and his family, ate dinner and went to sleep. It was a very fun day.

21st of October, Monday.

The actual project activities began. We went to

the school, there was an opening event, and a

tour around the school. We had a break in the

cafeteria, then we had an educational program

about learning maths with Texas Instruments

Robots. I found it pretty interesting. We had

another break, some more icebreaking

activities, Geogebra activity. Then there were sports activities, but I didn’t participate, but I met some new friends and talked with some people during that time. At 6, we went back home, had our casual tasty dinner

Next day was full of different

mathematical activities. We learnt about

mathematics in table games, I played chess

and some other table games. Next, we had

a mathematical calculus lesson, then a break,

and finally, what I was waiting for – 24

math game. It was a pretty simple game,

but fun. I first was with one fellow

schoolmate from Lithuania, then with her and

2 Polish students. After that, the actual game, I worked with, once again, the same schoolmate, and 2 Portuguese students. We surprisingly did very well. After that, we had an origami lesson – preparing for Halloween. I wasn’t very good at it, but during that time I got to know the Italian team better. In the end, there was a robotic demonstration, it was pretty interesting.

On the 23rd of October, Wednesday we

had an actual guided tour of Braga, had

lunch at McDonald’s, and visited the very

beautiful sanctuary of Bom Jesus. We took

pictures of geometric figures on its

stairway. Once I got on top, there was an

amazing view of the entire city of Braga. It

was stunning. For me, it was by far the

most interesting day.

Next day we present our presentations about “Europe in numbers”. Afterwards, we visited the Municipality of Amares City, took pictures, got our gifts, and moved on. Now, it was time to go to the Nova Arcada shopping center. It was very big and filled with a lot of activities. And to finish it all off, the best part – a dinner and party for us. It lasted for a few hours, met new friends, socialized, played games, took pictures and joked around.

25th of October, Friday. It was, in my opinion, a very sad day. First we visited the exhibition gallery, then went for an amazing trip around the county of Amares. I went to one of the oldest churches in Europe. It was stunning, we went to a restaurant, walked around some smaller town, played in a playground and overall had lots of fun. But the sad part starts here – we returned back to the school. The evaluation of activities of the projects began, it flew by fast. Then the closing ceremony began. Everyone was sad, some were crying, we said goodbye to everyone except for the Polish team, because we would still see them in the airport the next day. I was also very sad.

Visit to Portugal was an awesome experience. This week was the best week of my life. I experienced so many new things such as living whithout parents, new foods, new people, new language, new cities, new schools and some awesome views. On my opinion communicating with other people was the best part. I made so many new friends and I will never forget them. They brought so much joy in to that one week. The sad part was when we had to leave. It's so hard knowing that I might never meet those wonderful people.

Ours visit to Braga was amazing. It was very beautiful to see mountains every day. We went to Bom Jesus. Bom Jesus is on the top of a mountain. The view from the top of the mountain is very beautiful. You can see all the citie, gardens and much more. It was very sad to leave friends we made and family where we lived. The trip to Portugal deepened knowledge of new methods of teaching mathematics, enriched the mathematical and language skills of our students, gave the opportunity to learn about Portuguese culture, cuisine and customs as well as contributed to greater integration between project participants.

The next step in implementing the Erasmus + project is a visit to Turkey, which will take place in March next year.
